Congratulations to Kamala!

On this inauguration morning, I am filled with many emotions. America has been through a difficult season, however we can not take away from the fact that we have our 1st WOMAN VICE PRESIDENT!

Kamala Harris represents many groups of identities. She is a representation for Women, of the Southeast Asian community, a "Yardie" (Jamaican), a HBCU graduate, an AKA sorority member, A California native and the list could continue. In many definitions, the idealistic foundation of America is that, it is a nation of many identities. As Kamala this jewel, represents so many facets of American identity, I am reminded once again about the possibilities of the future. The American story is not a perfect story by any means, but today while her presence in her new position breaks many barriers, I am elated that she is my representation to the world. Today and for the next four years, I will have a Vice President that represents me... Yes!

Although I am not a member of any sorority, I do recognize the amazing principles that they uphold. The AKA mission statement below spells out why Kamala will be of great service to America. The Sorority colors are Salmon Pink and Apple Green. In honor of that we have used or Jade and Rose Gold leather jewelry at Amber PoitierAKA was the first African-American Greek-letter sorority, and its founders are referred to as the “Twenty Pearls.” We now know why she never forgets to wear her pearls for a photo.

AKA Mission Statement:

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® was founded on a mission comprised of five basic tenets that have remained unchanged since the sorority’s inception more than a century ago. Alpha Kappa Alpha’s mission is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to improve their social stature, to maintain a progressive interest in college life, and to be of “Service to All Mankind".
